I think that is a terrible name for their utility because it is confusing compared to the much older hard drive SMART technology.

But anyway ...
Here is a list of Microsoft Services you can Disable depending on your set-up.

Probably easiest to leave on Windows Media Player Network Sharing Services just in case.

And leave on Task Scheduler if your backups are automated.

Carbonite uses a service called VSS which it would need and might have others but those should be easy to spot because they would say Carbonite somewhere.
