I was using Front Page for several years with no problems on my XP system. I purchased a laptop with Windows 7 and found out that my Front Page program would not work on W 7 so I purchased MS Impression 4. I copied my FP files and pasted them in my public Impression 4 file however when I modify a page I cannot save it. I get an error message that I need permission to change the service.lck file. I read in one forum to delete the .lck file which I did but still could not save and publish the changed file. So, can a Front Page file be revised in Impression, saved and published?

"in my public Impression 4 file" - where is this exactly (folder path)? and where is service.lck?
The reason I ask is because W7 has added security to try to segregate the OS/programs/data so that the OS&programs are protected from everyone and so each users data is protected from any other users.

My guess is you don't have permission to write to the folder from within the program. Try running the Impression 4 program as an administrator (right-click on the shortcut you use to start Impression 4 and pick properties ... compatibility tab ... check Run this program as an Administrator.)

.service.lck file location

Thanks for your reply. The .lck file is located in the _vti_pvt folder located within the public folder. I'll try running Impression as you suggested.

Problem solved

TrainableMan:

Your suggestion of signing on as administrator enabled me to save the revised page. Thank you very much for your help.

God Bless
