Mouse Focus Question

Win 7 Pro 32-Bit

Some background, I still have and want to use the first generation MS
Intellipoint Explorer Mouse. I have kept this mouse because of ONE feature
in the Intellipoint 3.1 and 3.1a Driver Software. That feature is placing
the cursor over an object got the focus. For example, placing the cursor
on the Navigation side of Windows Explorer, that side got focus and I could
just start scrolling with the wheel (without having to click). Moving to
the right side of WE, again I could just start scrolling without having to
click on that side.

I have tried to install Intellipoint 3.1a on Win7, but get an error message
that no mouse is installed. Later versions of Intellipoint software don't
seem to have this feature.

I have not tried to install the 3.1a driver in Safe Mode as yet.

Is there a Registry Hack or some other way to get this feature back?

TIA!

Ah, I like people who become attached to mouses!
I would have thought that you should;
1. Download the software and install;
2. Follow installation instructions.

Is your model not here?

According to the description for v3.1,
"Note: This update requires that you currently have IntelliPoint 1.1 or
later; Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 SP3 or later; 13.5MB of
available disk space; and a Microsoft Mouse or IntelliMouse."
That may be why it won't install in Win7- it's too new (Win7, that is) :)

There is a program that will allow you to have the same focus property that
you want (I use it for the same reason) called WizMouse
<http://antibody-software.com/web/so...use-wheel-work-on-the-window-under-the-mouse/>

I use it on my Win7 32-bit desktop and my Win8 64-bit laptop. It works as
advertised with no problems and a very small footprint.

Control Panel | Ease of Access | Ease of Access Center | Make the mouse
easier to use | 'Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse' check
box

If it were easy to find *anybody* could use it. <g>

Yes, this 3.1 driver is very old and Win 7 doesn't recognize it
unfortunately.

Thanks, will give this util a try.

Thanks

Tried that first, but still have to click on the pane within Windows
Explorer to shift focus to that pane.

Great! Glad it worked for you, too :)

I just installed it and it works great in Win
Explorer. Can it work for dialogue boxes and
open windows od non-windows applications? Seems
not to.
