Microsoft Keyboard

I have a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 keyboard. I am unable to type ANY
upper case letter, nor the "special" characters above the Upper Row
numerics.

I used Device manager to first unistall the KB, and next rebooted
without the KB connnected. Then I downloaded (from the MSFT site) the
latest driver. The problem persists after again rebooting, and I have
no idea how to proceed.

Note: If at all germaine - I am running 64 bit Win 7 OS.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thx

dave

PS I am typing this on the "Cheap KB", free with my HP computer
purchase.

I suspect a hardware fault. Take it back to where you bought it, and
have them fix or replace it.

Sounds like there's something wrong with the Shift key. Can you try the
keyboard with a different computer?

Have you tried both the left and right Shift keys? Have you tried
CapsLock? If you habitually use just one shift key, maybe it has
just failed.

On my Acer laptop, at about the four-year mark the left Shift key
went bad. I got in the habit of using CapsLock instead, since I had
long since reprogrammed Caps Lock to act as a shift key.

I have tried both the left and right shift key, without success. I had
not thought about reprogramming the Caps Lock key to be a Shift Key
Alternate - I will try that.

I dio not have routine access to another desktop, to see if the
keyboard works on another system, but that surely is a Most valid
suggestion.

Thanks to all, whom responded -dave

And don't forget trying another keyboard on the problem computer.

You do have a drawer full of old keyboards, don't you? :)

I am NOW using a HP "Freebie" keyboard, offered with my Desktop. I
wish I had a second desktop, to try the "at issue" keyboard.

A plus, my MSFT keyboard is under warranty. I was hoping that I had a
"Brain Drain" and did something Stupid, to be the root cause of my Cap
problem. Apparently I have a hardware failure.

For sure I am most appreciative of ALL of the advice given -dave
