Loss of mail folder

I always have an archive folder in my email in which I keep copies of
invoices, orders etc. I have just lost the archive folder. Microsoft say
it is because I am using a third party client, i.e. Metronet, and I should
set mail to keep a copy on the server. They said they would try to retrieve
the mail, but all they managed was one of my deleted items folders. I do
keep a copy on the server, and I can access ordinary mail on the web, but
not the archive. I am using Win 7 Professional 64 bit. Does anyone have
any comments on this please?

I took a brief look at Metronet and its successor, but I
can't immediately tell _where_ your archive would have
been. Is it somewhere in their storage (as is my inbox
on Telus in Vancouver, Canada)? If so, I would have been
immediately moving to local files on my machine any mail
I wanted to preserve, if only to avoid overfilling my
inbox and embarrassing my correspondents by having their
messages bounced because my box was full, but practically
so I can keep my mail organized in a better way than
having it all live in a constantly expanding single
folder. "Purchases and trades" on my machine would
certainly get all relevant messages, for instance.
And then my backups would include these messages soon
after.

I do not yet trust the cloud or other people's storage.

So how do you normally access your email? Web browser? Email client such
as Outlook or Windows Live Mail?
If these documents were critical for your business then you should have
kept a local copy rather than rely on your mail provider...

Try making a new account; Copy Account works OK. It won't know anything
about read messages and anything still on the server will come in again as a
new message. Or use another mail client if you have one installed.
