LogonUI.exe - No Disk error

After transferring my files from XP to Windows 7 I ran into this error after removing a password from the prior administrator of my old PC. Every time a user logs off this error pops up. How do I fix? Will it go away if I delete the old administrator user account?

Please clarify, is the error in XP or W7 and are these completely separate machines or are you dual booting? If the error is in W7 then , when you transferred the files did you use Windows 7 Easy Transfer? If you did use Easy Transfer, what drive letter was your XP on and what drive letter is W7 on (W7 tends to rename the drive to C: and if you transferred from a diff drive letter it may be pointed to the old drive letter)

If the issue is on the old XP: The easiest recommendation to suggest would be to try a system restore to an earlier point prior to the error. Another suggestion would be to log on as an administrator and delete and recreate the erroneous ID, however all settings would likely be lost as well.

The error is in W7 and I used Windows Easy Transfer. Yes, my XP drive was F: and W7 is C:

This issue appears to be caused by Easy Transfer if the source computer OS was on a different drive letter than the new W7 OS. Example if you had XP on drive F: but when you installed W7 the drive is now C:.

I do not have this issue personally so I can only surmise as to a possible solution and this is only for those comfortable with making registry changes.

Logon with another administrator account if you have or can create one or from safe mode if that is your only option. From there open the registry editor (regedit.exe) and select the section HKEY_USERS (This is where account logon information is stored for all users - select it so the search starts from here).

At this point I recommend going to File - Export and creating a back-up to the HKEY_USERS registry section.

Then Edit - Find (or Ctrl+F) and search for the old drive letter "X:" without the quotes where X is your old OS drive (For instance F: in my example above) and change all the entries in that section found from X: to C:.

Once it is done logoff and reboot and hopefully it solves your problem. If not then you can go back into regedit and do File-Import to restore HKEY_USERS from the backup you made.

BTW: Here is what microsoft calls a solution. Maybe you can make something out of this but the way I read it you basically need to make sure nothing is assigned to the F: drive. That's not a solution, it's a patch and from the replies it doesn't seem to fix things. In some of the posts I've read another suggestion is to create a new login account which defeats the purpose of transferring your info and some people still said they get the error. I truly believe your best chance is my idea above.
