I've seen some negative comments from new Win7 users, who are complainig about the lack of support for Microsoft Mail and Express Mail. Don't they know that Live mail is downloadable and is FREE? I installed it and all of my messages and contacts imported perfectly. I think it is an improvement over Microsoft Mail. I especially like the auto spell checking and the things you can do with inserted photos (set size and layout easily for the message, add frames and effects, etc. The only think I saw lacking was a "send/receive" button, but it seems to automatically check for incoming or outgoing messages when it's started.

I didn't like the fact that during the upgrage, it said that some of my previously installed applications might not work. The only one that I cared about was my Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro. I just ran it and it gave me the Incompatibility warning, but I ran it anyway. I immediately got an opton to install a patch from Adobe, which I did. After installing the patch, I ran Acrobat, got the Incompatibility warning, ran it anyway, and it seems to run OK under Win7.

Overall, so far, I'm pleased with Win7, but haven't checked it out enough to see if there are major improvements over Vista. I do know that my IE8 still stops working and has to be restarted, but not as frequently as it did under Vista. I may just start using a different browser. Does anyone use a different browser other than Firefox, (which I do have)?

I'm quite pleased with Windows Live Mail (as a freebie) and I use it for a mail account that I keep separate from my normal one (which uses Outlook 2007). I think the problem is that most people don't know that Windows Live Mail exists, or where to download it from. It's mentioned lots of times on this site, so hopefully that will help most people. :)

I also use Windows Live Mail and it works perfectly for me. For your info: there is a Sync option. This is the same as send and recieve. If you check your Mail Options, you can turn off the Auto-Syncing (download messages on Startup) then use Sync and select the accounts you wish to download manually.

As Ian says. I am surprised that Microsoft do not promote the Live mail program. It would have enhanced their reputation if they had included the link, as an option, in the final install.
On another forum I am on, there are complaints about the loss of the old bar menu. Another boob from MS. Theye could have put it on with the option to hide it. They chose to do it the other way around..
Fwiw, for new users. Click the small square, in the middle of the three icons, top right. It gives you the option to show the old menu.

I don't think Live mail is as good as Outlook Express. It dosn't have icons on the toolbar making it harder to hit the right text item ( delete. next etc.) should be a button. It's contact book is crap. In outlook express you could make folders for your different accounts (I have over 546 email contacts) and bring up "personal", "Work" ec. and then select emails from within the folder to place in the "To" or "BCC" . Windows Live mail will allow you to make folder but wil insert the entire list of contacts in that folder into "To", "BCC" etc. It also keeps the entire list of contacts in the way whe you are trying to find one. A real pain in the butt. I hope it will be fixed or I will have to go back to XP. Maybe some one will create a patch etc.
This is the most frustrating part of the upgrade to Windows 7.

In the File - Windows Live Contacts window, either in the default or the new email window, you can click "File" and "Add a new category". You can then copy and paste your contacts around to their appropriate sections.

Yes but when you go to that contact folder to send an email (through - to, bc or bcc) it dosn't open the contact folder allowing you to select the ones you want like it did in Outlook Express but it imports the WHOLE contact folder and all of it's contents into your BCC or To section.

I was wondering, has this been fixed, I am in the same situation as JCM, I have alot of contacts and I would create a folder but I want to select people from within that folder group, not necisarily all of them, It takes to long to select contacts from my entire contacts list.
