Libraries, using

What problem did that solve?
Inconsistent behaviour: deleting a library does not delete its contents.
Deleting a folder or file within a library deletes the actual folder or
file. IOW, the library is a pointer list. Deleting any item in a library
should delet only the pointer, not what it points to. A library as a
pointer list is a very concept. Inconsistent implementation of the
concept is bad. Several people have sought help here when they were
caught by this inconsistency.

I deleted all my libraries except for the
default one that cannot be deleted.
Problem solved.
There IS no "problem" with libraries. I presume you deleted them without
even any investigation?

I didn't use then to start with for the same reason I never used their
predecessors: I like to set up my own folder trees. For the same reason
I set all programs to place their out put into folders of my choosing.
programs that don't allow this don't have room on my system.

After seeing some plaintive pleas for help on this forum, I
investigated, and decided Libraries are an example of how badly a very
good idea can be implemented.

That's a reasoned reply if ever I saw one....
No less reasoned than your reply saying there is 'no "problem"' with
libraries and that you presumed they deleted them without
investigation. There was much discussion in this group about the
problems with inconsistent behavior using the libraries. Some of those
that disliked the behavior were inclined to remove the libraries (as
much as you can) but it wasn't arbitrary as you assume.

Since you couldn't figure out what I meant, you should read the reply by
Zaphod Beeblebrox.

He spelled it out in detail so that even you might understand it.

I found Gordonbp's self-referent criticism especially amusing. Without
his own investigation, he "presume" that Paul in Houston deleted his
libraries without investigation.

Having installed the Classic Shell from sourceforge I don't see these
libraries at all.

I've had absolutely no problems related to using the new Libraries.
You guys make me feel smarter than I really am.

The "problem" was having folders that were of no use to me.
My Win7 machine is for work only and I prefer to have all
project related data in totally separate folders with
minimal possibility of "cross contamination".
I see no need to have links to the files when I spend
all of my time in the true directories anyway.

However, I do understand the use of link folders.
One of the online 3D virtual games I play has link
folders and I like having all similar items
grouped for use but not accidentally deletable.
Many of those items are not copyable and I can't
make a copy for each true folder.
In that case, libraries and links are very useful.

Just accept your smartness, no questions asked :)

Thanks. :) Over the years I've had multiple people tell me in real
life that I'm smart or intelligent or similar, but in every case they
either want something or it's a lead-up to telling me they're
disappointed in me. ;-)

Usually when I was called smart, it was just the first syllable :)
