Hi budway1942 - Welcome to w7forums

How do you connect to the Internet? Cable or DSL?

Is your desktop connected directly to the modem? If so you will need a router or at least a network switch if your modem has router functionality. This will allow for the connection of more than one PC.

Do you connect through a Wireless router? If not you might think about getting one. Chances are the Notebook will have wireless capabilities.

Wireless Routers

If you look at the back of a router with 4 ports, you will see 5 ports one of which you will connect to your modem. the other 4 ports are available for up to 4 PC's. The wireless router allow for any wireless device to connect to the Internet. This includes ipods, netbooks, notebooks, as well as desktops with wireless cards in them.

with laptops wireless is the to go. no lines tie-ing you down.
you can check with your provider to see if they have a wireless router or modem.
ATT u-verse is wireless ready.
your local cable company may offer internet service with a wireless modem.
i use suddenlink and thier wireless N and its fast compared to ATT u-verse wireless G.
