I have a laptop w/windows 7 and it will not download several things, including Adobe Flash Player. Has something to do with 64bit vs 32bit. Any suggestions?

Adobe does not yet have a Flash player for the 64 bit version of IE.

The default browser for Windows 7 x64 is the 32 bit version so it should download.

If you are using the 64 bit version of IE (both versions are installed in Windows 7 x64), you will have to use the 32 bit version for sites that require Flash.

Adobe do have a 64Bit beta going now. But I found, although I installed it, whenever I was on a site that needed Flash, usinf ie8 64bit, it still popped up asking if I wished to install it.
