Killing IE8 "information bar"

Every time a popup is blocked, I get an information bar at the top of
the page informing me of the fact, which I then have to dismiss. This is
as annoying as the popup being blocked! Can't IE just go about blocking
things according to the security settings and let it go at that? How can
I block or tailor THIS popup?

IE8 > Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings.
Clear the box marked ' Show Information Bar when a pop-up is blocked'.

Thank you. My last IE experience was IE6, which didn't have that. I
looked in the security settings and didn't find anything there.

Moving right along, same question with regard to ActiveX blocking and
the information bar.

I haven't played around with these but there are some ActiveX controls here:
IE8 > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom level > ActiveX controls and plugins.

Yes. Those I am familiar with. I found this in the IE Help file, but
following these directions does not stop the information bar from
popping up.

"To turn off the Information bar for ActiveX controls, scroll to the
ActiveX controls and plug-ins section of the list, and then, under
Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable."

"To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the
Downloads section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for
file downloads, click Enable."

I have those two settings on Disable. It looks like the Help file is wrong, it should
be 'Disable' to turn them off not 'Enable'.

That is the way I had them originally, the default settings, but either
way I get this alert when I try to load a page that uses ActiveX.

If I set the Internet security zone to allow the control, I get alerts
telling me how dangerous it is!

It might be something to do with IE's Protected Mode.
I run with UAC turned off and so my IE runs with Protected Mode off.
You can try disabling Protected Mode as a test:
IE > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Clear the 'Enable Protected Mode....' box.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Information Bar ad nauseum

Sigh, I have been searching the Internet for hours for a solution to the constant presence of the information bar in IE8. I am using Windows 7 Home, 64bit.

I have disabled the bar in the "tools" settings, have set UAC to zero notifications and even tried a regedit fix that I found online, all to no avail. No matter what I do, I get an annoying yellow bar that states: "Your current security settings put your computer at risk. Click here to change your security settings..." This bar appears every time I open IE8 and every time I change tabs. I am SICK of it.

I would switch to Firefox, but I use several proprietary software programs in my home office that simply do not work in any other browser. And, yes, I am aware of the attendant security issues. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?

Thanks!
