I can't give a definitive answer because I haven't used MS Works
2008\2009. But I am using MS Works 7 Dated 2002 successfully which may
give you a degree of comfort that Works 2008 could also be compatible
with Win 7.
According to Microsoft's web site (Windows 7 section under "compatibility")
Works 8 (more correctly, 8.05) is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit
Windows 7. I don't use Works (the only time I've had a copy was while I was
beta-testing a never-released software distribution tool back in the
mid-1990s and "purchased" Works to test the process) but it looks like the
..05 is a free update.
ObBlastFromThePast: another program that works quite nicely with Win7 is the
original VisiCalc for DOS. I've used it as a "demo" as a way to inject a
bit of humor into a Windows 7 orientation session. You can download a
fully-licensed copy from Dan Bricklin's web page:

The cheat sheet can also be downloaded from Dan's site.
