Is it possible?

....do to a "Repair Install" of windows 7, like you
could do with windows XP? Or is a format and
reinstall of everything your only option with windows 7?

I see/get no option with the windows 7 cd, other than to do
a complete/fresh install.

If it matters, I am using Windows 7 Professional.

Thank You

If you read carefully what I wrote you will soon realize that I did NOT
have to format the HD to reinstall Win 7. So it is in a way a complete
"Repair Install" but accomplished via the Internet. But rather than do
an actual patch repair, it will re-install Win7 afresh but WITHOUT
touching the other installed software which is a far more practical
method than a complete re-format and re-install.

You still need your Win 7 installation disk and it will ask you for the
key at the end.

I am certainly chaffed! This new way of re-installing a completely fresh
copy of Win7 on the hard disk while leaving your settings and all the
other programs intact is certainly something that saved the day for me
after the Paragon defrag froze and corrupted several Win7 files. Well,
actually it did not "corrupt" but rather wiped clean those files which
ended up showing as 0 KB in Windows Explorer. And only heaven knows how
many files it did this to!

So yes, M$ have done a good job they can be proud of.

Okay, thanks .... looks like fresh is my only option ... this
was an install done by Dell, so it's an OEM install ....... I did
manage to talk them out of a Windows 64 CD eventually ....but
it came without a Product ID ..... (even tho it is a MICROSOFT Windows cd,
not
just a simple restore cd) I know it will do a fresh install, cause I did it
once before,
but I don't know how it will do that repair thing I read about, cause that
web site
said I have to have the product ID.

Look on your PC/laptop for a Dell/MS sticker. It should have your product
key somewhere. That key should then work with your DVD installation,
although it may take a phone call to MS to activate it. About 5 minutes max
for that.
