is it possible to make the desktop resolution larger than the physical resolution?

I have a Netbook
HP MINI 2140 which works fine with Win7.
The native physical resolution of the display is
1024 x 576 pixels.
This is fine for most but some larger windows will not display correctly
e.g. sometimes i do not see the "ok" or "cancel" buttons.

Is there a possibility to virtually use a different resolution,
for example 1280 x 1024 and making the netbook display show only a portion
of it, by moving around with the mouse?

I remember in the past some graphics adapters offered a similar feature by
their own software
but i thought in Win7 this might be included.

Any idears?

"Augustus"

Unfortunately the SDESK app does not work on my
HP MINI 2140 (with 32-bit version of Win7 ultimate).

The app starts and shows me the little navigation window,
i can set a virtual desktop size but nothing happens -
the desktop resolution remains 1024x576.
Then i tried disabling "aero" and switching to a win7 standard display
scheme,
same problem.

Am i to stupid to use the app correctly, or is it just too "old" for Win7
and some graphics adapters?

No problem for seven...

Just run with compatibility XP...

( and for move your virtual screen use "CTRL+SHIFT+ALT + ( UP,or DOWN,or LEFT, RIGHT )
