Is it my browser?

E

Emrys Davies

I have Win. 7 64 bit Home Premium and IE 8

My browser cannot open this site: FREE Football Streaming info : Watch live
football on your pc, free ... . I also tried Firefox and that cannot open
it. Would someone confirm that the server is down rather than it being at
my end? I have no problems with other sites.

Works fine here. XP running FF 9.
Where is 'here'. I am in the UK. Any ideas why I cannot get it now,
whereas last week it worked fine?

I'm also in the UK. I can get all pages linked to from the home page.

It also works using Windows 7 Home Premium and IE9 on another computer.

Have you changed any settings recently? Have you updated your security
software since last time it worked? Have you scanned your computer for
malware? Have you tried exiting from and restarting your browser/ Windows?

All questions any helpdesk operator would ask you, as it's common for
these things to fix such problems.

Unless it's a stream or a page within the site you're trying to use, in
which case there's another layer of questions like does the stream or
page work elsewhere? Are you sure the stream or page server isn't down
(Not the same things as the web server). Are you getting any error
messages, and if so, what are they?

Yes, it found lots of Adware. MyWebSearch/FunWebProducts and got rid of them

Don't quite understand first part. I have restarted Windows.

When I try and open that URL www.footballstreaming.info I get: Internet
Explorer cannot display the Web page. All other Google entries in the
vicinity open without a problem.

The space between the words is significant ...

Same answer to the other two questions
There is a [Space] before the "www" in all 3 commands. NSLOOKUP, PING and
TRACERT are all commands that if typed without the remainder of the line
will give help\description.

I misled you there as I did not leave space as required. This is the proper
result:

lookup www.footballstreaming.info ds1device.1an can't find
www.footballstreaming.info Server failed

ping www.footballstreaming.info ping could not find host. Please check
name and try again

tracert www.footballstreaming.info unable to resolve target system name
www.footballstreaming.info

That'll be dsLdevice.Lan but never mind that ... it shows you've got a
DNS problem.

Have you set your own DNS settings in your router, or are you using the
automatic ones provided by your ISP? Who is your ISP?

What if you temporarily change the DNS settings on your Ethernet or WiFi
card from the router (or more likely from automatic) to a different
server? e.g.

8.8.8.8 = google
4.2.2.2 = level3
208.67.222.222 = opendns

I am using the automatic ones provided by TalkTalk
card from the router (or more likely from automatic) to a different
server? e.g.

8.8.8.8 = google
4.2.2.2 = level3
208.67.222.222 = opendns
Don't follow the latter suggestion

www.footballstreaming.info
From here (BT Internet)

The tracert result gives an IP address of 95.211.108.143 This leads to a
page generated by Plesk Parallels Virtualisation software, saying that
there is is no web site at this IP address, running on a server which
appears to be in the Netherlands. The only alias is given as
www.footballstreaming.info. There is also a mention of www.leaseweb.com
as the owner? of the address.

Ping returns correctly in about 40mS.

As the Internet bit seems to be working as expected, anyone got any ideas?

Other than temporarily disabling the OP's firewall, of course.

That'll be because the server relies on matching the host: header in the
http request, but you've not given it the domain name, only a number ...
so that result is pretty normal for shared hosting.

Can we clear this up. Would you have a peep at the 13th post down 'Is it
safe to delete this'. The URL which I am doubtful about there is still in
place. It is preceded by the word 'AutocompleteURL'. Could that be my
problem as you will see that it connected to FunWebProducts?

control Panel

network and sharing centre

change adapter settings

you might get a UAC prompt at this point

highlight the relevant ethernet or wifi adapter

change settings of this connection

highlight TCP/IPv4

properties

instead of obtain DNS server automatically, select use the following DNS
servers

pick two of the above IP addresses, enter them as primary and secondary.

click ok, then close

try the website again

=====================

I suppose it's also possible you're getting problems caused by TCP/IPv6,
but try the above first.

It's not likely to be the 13th post for everyone, different servers
receive different subsets of messages, in different orders, but I do see
the message you mean.

in place. It is preceded by the word 'AutocompleteURL'. Could that be my

Sounds like you've picked up one of those annoying browser "helpers",
they often get installed by free software if you don't tell them you
don't want them (e.g. perhaps related to the football site, it could be
installed by a bundle of video codecs, or streaming video software).

I don't suppose it's the reason for not visiting the football website,
I'd probably be tempted to delete it, but before doing that, where is it
in the registry?
