Hi Karen F

Is there a newsgroup for IE8 or 9?
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

I haven't been there so I don't know how active it is, but it
is present on my news server.
But I would gues that most of Your questions can be answered
here as well.

Best regards

Thanks. I'll ask here. I am using IE9 and would like to know how to
view full screen. When I open IE9's homepage I am only viewing the
screen in the middle of my monitor and I have a border on each side. I
know how to click on the right upper corner for minimize and full screen
when using firefox but I would like to know how to view full screen in IE9.

Doesn't F11 do it?

hit F11.

But if You press the alt key You will get all the menus at the
untill You select one of them.
If You go to the view menu after pressing the Alt key You can
under toolbars chose to have the menu shown all the time.
You can always hide it again when You are more familiar with IE.

Hi Karen

If You go to Start -> Help and support
then do a search on internet explorer You will get several
links and one of them is about keyboard shortcuts in IE
there is a lot.

Hi, Karen.

There are 3 views that are often called "full screen":

1. Maximized - click the square just left of the "X" in the upper right
corner of just about any window (IE or other) to get this. Actually, that
button toggles between Maximized and Restore Down to the previous size.

2. Normal window stretched to cover the entire screen - With the window
not maximized, grab any border with your mouse and drag it to the size you
want - including all the way to the sides and corners.

3. Full screen - Press <F11>. This is what Microsoft calls "Full screen"
and it works in most windows. It stretches the view as far as possible,
even covering the Title Bar and Status Bar. To return, press <F11> again.
Or move your mouse to the top edge for a temporary switch.

These 3 views may look about the same to us humans, but Windows knows the
difference - and behaves differently.

With only 88 posts
MIcrosoft no longer support their microsoft.public.xxx newsgroups,
and want you use their own forums such as Microsoft Answers, TechNet
and MSDN. Read this:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx
Because of this, many news hosts no longer carry all of the old
groups - how many posts you see depends entirely on your news host.
Some usenet microsoft.public groups are still active though, although
the number of posts does seem to be dramatically decreasing.

I always thought that, by clicking the little rectangular box in between
the - and the x at the top right corner of programs, would expand the
program to full screen???????

Depends on what you mean by full screen.

The Maximize icon (that's the name of that box) expands the window
*with* its borders to fill the screen. If you are, say, watching a
video or reading a PDF file, you might want the picture inside its
borders to reach the screen edges, suppressing the borders. That's
that's normally the definition of full-screen mode, and it's normally a
menu item inside the program. Not all programs have it.

Hi, Seum.

See my post in this thread (4/18/2011 4:59 PM CDT) for the 3 kinds of "full
screen".

Microsoft pretty much killed off all their microsoft.* series of
newsgroups a while back, in favor of their new web-based structure of
support forums. Unfortunately, while the MSDN and TechNet forums
still exist, and can be accessed via a NNTP "bridge" to allow them to
be used via NNTP readers like Agent, their "Answers" series (which
includes all their consumer products) recently went through an
"upgrade" of the web-hosting software that now makes use of the NNTP
bridge "unsupported" -- meaning totally impossible. For those, you
gotta go via the web. There are a lot of us doing some pi$$ing and
moaning about this so-called "upgrade" but so far no movement on
Microsoft's part.
