This morning I was confronted with network problems, which I called my ISP about, and apparently they had put a block on my account. That was all corrected & My account was unblocked from the Internet. However, Internet explorer will not open its default webpage, MSN.com. I keep getting an error message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I tried some of the bookmarks and Internet Explorer opens them with ease, but to click its homepage, it will not open it.
I have tried clearing all browser history, but I still get the same results. However, when I type in MSN.com on Firefox, Firefox has no problem opening the page. Yes, I use two browsers with Firefox being the default. I use Internet Explorer to play the free online games by which only Internet Explorer can be done. This really got me baffled. I welcome all opinions and suggestions. Thank you very much in advance!

hxxp? is that a typo for http because hxxp is not valid.

Because your system was down for whatever reason you could try refreshing your DNS cache:
open a command prompt with administrator privileges (accessories, command prompt ... right-click, run as admin)
type: ipconfig /flushdns

I used hxxp because some boards, forums frown on http (a link) being posted

Well, that's good news if you are opening the page. No sure how you accomplished it though(?). As far as I am aware, there is no www. prefix for MSN addresses, it's usually a letter. Possibly it auto transcribed it.
But, anyway, you are there!

Ok. Something new.
I don't have MSN as my login home page, but I do have one. It looks like this (note the address)

If I click the op's link (after amending http) I get this:

Maybe he has some weird unprintable character in there or something - would explain why it didn't work before for him but is now

Long as he's happy I guess it's all good.

OK, now IE 8 is operating normally now. I am able to open
Please note that all Windows 7 users (W8 users too) should be running with IE10 (even if using an alternative browser as their default).

XP users should be up to IE8. IE9 for Vista.
