Internet explorer doesn't work but I can get online

I got a window 7 laptop from a drift store for free and when I got it it had a password on it so I restored windows to factory settings now Internet explorer will not work I can still get online using Google but when I try to download something, it redirects to Internet Explorer, which doesnt work. I’m unsure if this laptop is eligible for a Windows 10 or 11 update. I also have a USB flash drive, but I’m not sure how to proceed. Should I consider downloading another browser? I want to be able to use this laptop.
