You can keep your eye on things with a gadget called Network Monitor II

The free version is Netlimiter (2) [not 3]
It will provide very precise bandwidth measurements; much more than
any speed measuring web site.

Just for information, I have tried quite a few speed test web sites. So I
know that an alternative way to test the connection speed is to actually
download something. When one does that, the progress window that opens
shows the actual transfer rate which you are getting. You might then see
that it is invariably much slower than what the web sites tell you is your
speed.
Many thanks, johnbee Your comments have been taken on board!!!johnbee said:Just for information, I have tried quite a few speed test web sites. SoOphelia said:Thank you too Well I certainly have plenty to try)Agent_C said:Where can I find out what my connection speeds are, please?

that it is invariably much slower than what the web sites tell you is your

you can, for example, get game downloads for free trial periods - they
usually tell you how big the file is - choose a big one for a decent test.
You don't have to run the thing (download it to your desktop so you can
delete it immediately without a fruitless search for hours among the
mysterious subfolders). Apologies to all those who claim that things are
easy to find in Windows 7 <g>.
