Incomplete Win7 OS cannot get printer working

A

Anonymous

Just was given a Win7 box with Enterprize on it.

When I try to add my old panasonic dot matrix printer for which I do not
have any setup disk but which works perfectly under XP and is listed in
the XP printer list, I find that this 7 OS (for which I do not have the
install disk) does not list Panasonic.

When I click on update printer files, I get a message saying wait till
Windows updates the files, should take a few minutes. But I do not yet
have a net connection so if this is an online update I cannot do it.

Is there anyway to get a more complete driver list for printers for
Win7. The Mfg is not releasing updates for this dinasour but very good
printer (yeah panasonic!). I have searched and searched for a driver for
this Kx-p2123 printer but all I find is spyware sites pretending to have
the driver while trying to get u to download their malware.

HELP!

If Panasonic doesn't have a Windows 7 driver for it, you're out of
luck.

Whenever you change to a new version of Windows, you need to install
drivers (software that provides the interface between the hardware and
Windows) for printers, scanners, video cards, etc., that have been
written for that new version of Windows. And also note that you need
different drivers for a 32-bit version of Windows and a 64-bit
version.

It's up to the manufacturer of the hardware to write and make
available for download those drivers. Especially if your hardware is
older, it may well be that the manufacturer has decided that it's not
worth his time and effort to develop drivers for hardware that he is
no longer selling.

Check with the manufacturer or on their web site to see if a driver
exists. If it doesn't, you're out of luck. Also check their web sites
in other countries, if there are any; sometimes you can find the
driver you need that way.

Try the driver for the Epson LQ Series 1 or 2 (80).

Microsoft has drivers for it, you have to retrieve them. If you refuse
then you have to fake it with what you got. Generic or the like usually
works.

There are no drivers for the Kx-p2123, compatibility list
states no drive install needed, but OP says they are not
listed in the Add Printer section of 7.

One of two intelligent replies, other being use a generic
driver-IF you can find one.

If you will bite the bullet and use this method (which includes using Windows update, which requires you to install your
net connection), you will have a driver for it:

Go to Devices and Printers, click on "Add a printer" at the top of the page.
Select "Local printer" then "Use an existing port" then click Next. When the "Install the printer driver" window comes
up, click on "Windows Update" near the bottom. It may take a minute or two to finish, depending on your connection.
Scroll down to "Panasonic" in the left pane, then pick Panasonic KX-P2123 from the right pane.

If the printer already shows in Printers and Devices, then highlight it and pick "Print server properties" at the top of
the page. Go to the Drivers tab, then click Add.. at the bottom of the page. Then click Next, Next, then "Windows
Update" and follow the same procedure as before.
You can also remove any driver(s) that didn't work from the Drivers tab using this method.

This is a good answer. Most dot matrix printers have similar or
identical features. Epson drivers work with most of them. Just choose
the carriage width that matches your printer and you should be good to
go.

That's because the OP refused to retrieve the ones Microsoft supplies.
Perhaps if you have Windows 7 you will try installing that printer, then
you will see. It is an "LPT1" attached printer.

I found some drivers for Panasonic dot matrix printers, including
KX-P2123, and which I can only offer for you to try. They are packed
in a RAR file and I have stored them at Mediafire. You can get them at

http://www.mediafire.com/file/gjf1l4prvo25pd2/Panasonic_Printer_Drivers_for_Win_7.rar

Good luck

Don't lie. OP said he did not have access to internet on that
machine. Why give MS a chance to put spyware on your computer
in order to get the drivers they SHOULD have provided with
their latest incomplete (and most likely insecure) OS?
