iLook370 microphone not seen on Windows 7 Ultimate

E

El.Plates

I have installed my iLook370 on a Windows 7 Ultimate PC. The camera works
fine but the microphone is not working at all.
Have gone Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Manage Audio Devices -
Sound - Recording Tab and the microphone for the iLook 370 is not listed.
Have looked in Device Manager and the iLook is listed and updating driver
returns that the most up to date driver is installed.
There is however in the list this entry, Other Devices - Unknown Device.
Have tried to update this with no success.
Think this is unconnected as the iLook is installed ok and the mic is not on
a separate input as the webcam connects via a single USB only.
Appreciate any help given,
TIA
Arfer.

A single USB device *can* have multiple logical endpoints, the it's
possible the unknown device is the microphone, what is the PCI
vendor/device ID shown for it?

Thanks for the reply, I've had a look and Hardware Ids are
USB\VID_093A&PID_2623&REV_0100&MI_01
and
USB\VID_093A&PID_2623&MI_01

is this the correct info ? as I can't find anything listed as
PCI
vendor/device ID

Thanks for the help

El.Plates,

This is just to let you know your text is intermixed with Sonny Brads
reply which makes it more difficult to understand who said what.
Microsoft's WLM latest release has changed their formatting, so that
quoted text is not properly formatted. It is the main reason I changed
to Forte Agent for now. Perhaps, MS will correct things in their next
WLM release, but in the meantime it is somewhat problematic.

Problematic - really ? seems quite clear to me, we've even got different
names to help make it obvious who is posting what.
Now, has anyone got any ideas as to why my iLook370 microphone on Windows 7
Ultimate is not seen ?
TIA

1. You added your latest reply after a dash-dash-space separator. That
is the universal standard for a signature delimiter, meaning your
reply is technically in the signature area of your post, which is a
complete mess.

2. It appears that you'd rather argue than take even the most basic
steps to conform to Usenet standards. Please reconsider.

3. I thought your question got answered in the very first reply.

You will need to get the correct driver from the manufacturer of the
webcam, you can't rely on MS update. Didn't you get a driver disk
when you bought it? You can use an older Vista driver if that's all
you have. The Unknown Device showing in the Device Manager is the
microphone so until you load the correct driver you'll never get
sound. Contact the webcam manufacturer.

Well the vendor is Pixart Imaging, I can't see an entry for 2623 but
2624 is a webcam, so I'd say 2623 *is* your microphone.

I'm not familiar with iLook, but if it's not make by Pixart, I'd try to
track down a generic pixart driver, or one from another manufacturer
that uses the same chipset.

In a few cases, doing a second driver install picks up the secondary
(microphone) USB device. The logic is that the first driver install
allows recognition of the secondary device, and the second install picks
it up, and configures to support it.
Or, as another has said, you need to download updated drivers. Windows
default drivers often are stripped down drivers.
Prime examples of win included but stripped down drivers often occur
with multifunction devices.

And as further proof of how screwed up WLM is now, notice how your last
reply is missing? That's because it was placed below the sig delimiter
of the previous text. This is bad because a proper newsreader ignores
text after a signature delimiter, this is done to reduce repeated text
(the signature) that isn't a part of the message body in a post that
conforms to established standards.

So it all boils down to this, either be prepared to be harassed about
the poorly formatted messages that WLM 2011 creates, or either edit the
replies to conforms to the standards or use a different newsreader.

I considered simply giving him a 30 day time out, but quickly realized
that nothing would magically change during that time, so I swallowed
hard and tried to guide him toward the light. I'm not super
optimistic. :)
