IE9 Stops

J

John Ferrell

I have been getting along pretty well with IE9 until the last week or
so.

Sometimes when I save things from the web (web pages, .HTM or .MHT,
Pictures, files, etc.) I get the message that IE9 has stopped and
needs to close. Usually, it will close and reopen back to where I was
working. Sometimes a reboot will help the problem go away. I have
hoped that the problem rode in on an update and would leave the same
way. Last night it did this quirk while I was download information
from my bank. The bank site choked & I took a little while to get it
sorted out & back into the task at hand.

I am tired of messing with it already, it should not have come to
roost on my machine!

I am not inclined to try to move back to IE8.
I don't think this is something I can resolve.

The only practical things I can see that I might do is either go to
Chrome or FireFox.

Any suggestions?

Retest by loading IE in its no add-ons mode. Perhaps you have an add-on
that you migrated from an earlier version of IE and the old add-on
version isn't compatible with the new version of IE. Or you installed a
flaky add-on. Test IE without any of the add-ons you installed to see
if it becomes stable.

Good point!
I should have thought of that!

I am not finding an option in IE9 that offers a mode with all add ins
off.

I have a Win7-IE8 machine in my Array that I will use for this
function until I am certain that IE9 is part of the failing
configuration.

What I refer to as an Array is a network of systems (Win7, Win7,
Xppro, Xppro, Ubuntu) with a pair of KVM switches and appropriate
Displays. Configuration changes are quick & clean to permit a quick
context switch for whatever the day calls for.

You can use the path here:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

It's also available from the Start Orb:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
