Icons in Taskbar

I have noticed that some shortcut icons that I place in the Taskbar
disappear from time-to-time (the icon appears a a blank white icon and
the window says it can no longer find this application) and I have to
manually re-insert them. I can't seem to find a "refresh the taskbar"
selection anywhere. Is there a trick to prevent this from occurring?

Open Windows Explorer
Press Alt
Click Tools
Click Folder Options
Click View
Click Show hidden files, folders and drives

You should now have a Quick Launch folder icon on your desktop

Open this folder
Open the User Pinned sub folder
Open the TaskBar sub folder

This sub folder should contain the Shortcut icons for all of the
Shortcuts pinned to the TaskBar

Thanks for your reply but I already had "Show hidden files, folders
and drives" checked but the only icons (other than my program icons) I
see on the Taskbar are "Show hidden icons (an up arrow), "Action
Center", "Network 2", and "Speakers". I do not see a "Quick Launch"
icon on my desktop.

I think that TLC's answer is incorrect, for hte same reason as yu
cited.

There is available software to make such a thing or maybe it's a
method documented by MS.

See the thread "windows 7 task bar classic mode", in this NG on May 9.
where in spite of the subject there is some slightly OT advice that
might help you.
