How to get rid of the 3D-stuff?

I strongly dislike all of these "3D"-effects on writings (characters),
frames, all that "shadow", and things.

How do I get rid of these? And How can I determine the colour of the
writing e.g. on the desktop?

Try turning 'Aero' off and see if that helps.
