How to gain full access to files/folders on my Vista partition?

Hi I'm trying to get access to my word documents and files from my Vista partition without the "Read-Only". Do I have to log-on to Vista and change the settings from that OS? What settings do I need to change, it is confusing because I right-clicked the Vista Partition and enabled sharing but that did not work

Do you want to access the same files from within Vista and Windows 7, and they are located on the Vista partition?

You might need to take ownership of the files so that you have full control from W7... however that might cause problems with Vista depending on where the files are located.
