how to fix Unallocated Space Issue

Hello, I tried to install Windows 7 and clicked on unallocated space (which was 9MB of free space), then selected 'new'. Suddenly, all my disks disappeared, and I now have one unallocated space with 400GB free. What happened? Is there any way to recover my old information? Thanks.
