I did such a backup yesterday, but I can't find it in Win7
Explorer.
I am trying to "attach" this *.vhd file from the "Computer
Management" but it keeps asking for "Specify a Hard Disk
Location on This Computer".
Where is this?
Please help,

I just tried this, for fun. I connected a USB external drive
to the laptop, and "made an image". I specified drive F:, the
external, as the target.
The files should be in a folder "WindowsImageBackup", which
I can find at the top level of the backup partition on the
external drive. So F:\WindowsImageBackup is where they'll go.
If you buried your downloads somewhere deep in a file tree, then
just look for "WindowsImageBackup".
The permissions on the files are such, that you'll get
prompted as you drill down to where the actual files are
stored.
With the drive connected to (this) WinXP machine, I'm having
no problem drilling down to the actual VHD file. There are
two VHD files in here. I was expecting a "take ownership" problem,
but it just works.
F:\WindowsImageBackup\PaulsLaptop\Backup 2011-01-10 044237\
The extension on the end of the file in that folder, is .vhd,
but I couldn't see that in Windows 7, because viewing extensions
wasn't turned on.
Any time you're having problems locating large files, you can
use Sequoiaview. It makes your file system appear in a graphical
display, with the largest "blobs" being your biggest files.
Holding the mouse over the blob, displays the path and size.

This is what a partition looks like, in Sequoiaview.

If you have the right kind of search tool, you could
also search by size, and ask the computer for any file
larger than say, 1GB.
I expect the problem is file permissions, and perhaps any search
you attempt, is being prevented by a permissions issue. I was
prompted, for each level I was trying to view, so there is
some tiny issue there.
