Hello all, I've just joined this site, (...and I have a feeling I will become quite a regular visitor...I am USELESS with computers!!!).
I have Dell Dimension E520, which has given me a lot of problems ( MOSTLY due to my complete ineptitude with using it correctly...I must admit) over the years, and it has crashed and gone wrong many times.( That said, it performs magnificently if/when used correctly...)..
My current problem is .... ( apologies if this has been posted on here before, but I have no idea yet how to "Search" this site yet...)

How on earth do I find, and empty my recycle bin please??

I would greatly appreciate any help, and if possible, could you please keep any response as simple as possible to follow any instructions!!!
Many, many thanks in advance,
Dave

Right click on desktop and select view, from there you will see a selection to "Show desktop icons". If there is not a check beside this selection, all desktop icons will be hidden.

Perhaps, though, you have no wish to show all of those items. As Cliff says, right click the desktop but choose "personalize". Top left is an item "Change desktop icons". Here you can select those you want on an individual basis.

After you have got the recycle bin on your desktop, right click it and choose "Empty recycle bin"

It may seem that your system is unstable due to bloatware and improper usage, crashes. It will be useful to do a clean install, preferrably.

1. Always run an AV.
2. Do not change any program settings unconsciously.
3. Do not run any program that is from unknown sources.

Hi again Chaps,
Thanks Clifford and Dave..after fumbling around in the "Desktop" I found what I was looking for!!...I never knew about "Right clicking" on it....Bin is now emptied! Cheers!!
Ian, I have (Supposedly) an AV installed, by my isp ( Virgin media), but It ( the computer) is continually telling me that it is switched off, and to "Click" to turn it on,,,,and when i do, it just disappears off the screen for a few hours, then comes back....and so on...
I had a friend around to "Clean" up the computer about 9 months back, and for about 4 weeks, it worked like a dream, but, whatever "Magic" he worked seemed only temporary, as I am having "Problems again....ho- hum...
Thank you again For your assistance!! have a good weekend!!!

Many virus programs will shut down your AV. It might be a good idea to reboot to safe mode and while there run a complete scan with a different AV, like malwarebytes, to see if it finds anything. You can find links to Malwarebytes in our Freeware DB

NOTE: if you try malwarebytes say NO when it asks if you want to try the full version. If you allow it to run the trial version then it may conflict with your existing AV; what you want is to just use the Malwarebytes in passive mode (ie only when you tell it to run manually, not actively in memory like the trial and full versions run)
