You might want to be a bit more specific.

You need Windows 8 Professional for Hyper-V. So for Windows 7 you can use Windows Virtual PC or XP Mode.
Then there is Vmware Workstation which costs money.
Vmware Player is free.
Virtualbox is free.

I personally use Virtualbox, but if I had a serious use (work related) I would buy Vmware Workstation. Microsoft Hyper-V is definitely getting better, but Vmware, I think, is still the market leader.

Disk Management will allow you to create and mount virtual drives. Just remember only one software can mount the drive at one time, whether that be Windows 7 or the Virtual Machine.

But if you are creating virtual machines, you should do that through your Virtualization software.
