How do I adjust the Win 7 splash screen to fit my 13.3 LCD monitor screen

I upgraded laptop Sony VAIO VGN-SZ330p from Windows Vista to Win 7 and now
the Blue Windows 7 splash screen (I believe its called) does not fit the
entire screen? There is a black border around it. When I increase the
display resolution to max. 1028x768? it still doesn’t fit the entire 13.3
inch laptop screen.

Any suggestions welcome.

If you didn't update your graphics drivers, you probably want to do that
first. More than likely, You need to go into your monitor's settings &
stretch the page in whichever direction(s) are needed.

I assume you're referring to the blue Welcome screen right after the Starting Windows one and before your desktop shows?
If updating the video drivers (as BobbyM suggested), then odds are it will never fill the screen. At that point, I
believe the PC is still using the native VGA drivers, and the Windows driver hasn't loaded yet. On my laptop (1280X800),
it fills the screen from the start (also upgraded from Vista to Win7). But my desktop PC (1440x900) starts out with the
black border, and right before the desktop shows, it fills in.

As long as your desktop is showing full screen once within Windows, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thnks All,

It never goes to full screen. I just ran Windows Update Advisor only to find
its telling me this laptop ( Sony VAIO VGN-SZ330p ) cannot be upgraded to
Win 7.

I should have looked into running the Advisor first...Art

Most (all?) laptops' video systems are set to match the original OS.
When you upgraded, that match was broken, so it's no surprise that
you'll see glitches during boot. I second SC Tom: As long as W7 displays
correctly after boot, don't worry about it.

During boot, the laptop uses the video hardware's base settings.
Changing the display at the OS level won't change this. The utilities
supplied with the Vaio may include a one for digging into the video
hardware settings. If so, you may be able to make it boot using a higher
resolution.

BTW, it's bad idea to set the display to anything other than the
physical resolution. Win7 detects and defaults to this automatically,
and IMO you should leave it there. Some people change the resolution
when they have trouble reading the default fonts. To improve
readability, use W7's Personalize applet to increase the size of
displayed objects and fonts.

Wolf K.
