How can I recover files from a USB drive stored in a FOUND.000 folder?

The files are named from FILE0001.CHK to FILE9999.CHK. I converted them into 10,001 CHK files and placed them in a ‘Found 000’ folder on my SONY 16GB USB flash drive. Can I later transfer these files to my Chromebook’s internal memory and use tools like UNCHK to recover them? Or should I keep the USB connected to my Chromebook and use CHROME OS for recovery? The lost files were created in a Windows 7 Ultimate environment. Also, can I format the entire 16GB SONY PEN drive afterward? Thanks
