A pox on asus.us.

How do I get this out of the machine, the simple solutions do NOT work
no matter how many times I put Http://www.MSN.com into IE as the home
page
http://asus.us.msn.com/ keeps coming up.
TIA
There is only one report of this on vip.asus.com ... and no answers.

How many "add-ons" are installed in the browser ? Any "chopware"
from Asus ?

Well, does that mean there are no add-ons at all? What add-ons are
listed for IE? Did you try running IE in its no add-ons mode?

What security software have you installed? Some will lock the settings
in the web browser so malware can't change it. In that case, you have
to disable its lockdown of the web browser so you can make changes and
then re-lockdown the web browser so nothing else can change those
settings.

Is this an Asus laptop ?

Or a home computer built using a retail Asus motherboard ?

Or one of their barebones systems ?

If so, do you have model number information ? Maybe someone has
complained about the chopware or some ActiveX additions
placed in the Asus software before.

Firefox is NOT affected. But the wife doesn't like it.
OK, no offense, but for my wife, I'd explain that she has two choices: IE
with asus or firefox without.

Quite so. I've seen browsers hijacked often enough, and then try and
sell you stuff. But a browser hijacked by the OEM vendor is weird indeed!!

In this case, I'd have to assume the Trojan writer wants to damage
the reputation of Asus. I can't imagine them "advertising" this way.
That doesn't make a lot of sense.
