hidden tools in W 7

J

Jeff

There seem to be several useful tools in W7 that for some reason the
programmers decided to hide where they are difficult to locate without
searching for them - which implies you already know of their existence.

I just discovered the "Reliability history" (search for it in Start) and
needed to search to find the "Event Viewer" I used in XP.

Is there a list somewhere of where one can find these useful tools in W 7?

There is the "Godmode" folder.

Create a folder anywhere you like. Rename it:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Et Voila. Every single Windows 7 tool all in one folder nicely
categorised for you.

Just a note here, when renaming the folder you must do it from the
properties window and not the drop down menu.

I don't think that's right.
I created a new folder.
Clicked once on it and typed in "Control Settings.
{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" and it works fine. You can call it
anything you want. I don't particularly care for "GodMode". I never had to
go near a properties window and could have used F2 for file rename.

I also have a power settings one on my desktop using guid

In Windows Explorer, when I tried to rename the folder from the right pane
it wouldn't accept the name, when I renamed from the left pane it worked
fine.

Why don't we just create a new folder with this name? What is the trick? It
worked for me when I created a brand new directory with this name.

So I stand corrected... though for some reason when I tried it earlier I
kept getting some error message about improper characters in the name.
Must have cut and pasted something extra without realizing it.

I have setup the subdirectory and all the items are there and I have
currently added it as desktop shortcut. The tools do not show on the start
menu item even though I have set the show on start menu under customize. I
wonder if this is because I am using the Windows Classic theme. Can you
think of any reason why the folder name does not appear on my start menu?

Well maybe not.

When I copy/paste Andrew's code it does not work, but when I used the
other item cited Godmode... it does work. Why?

Power.{025A5937-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D}

Did you put a "." after the name of the folder?

I had the period followed by a space. This example does not have the
space and worked:)) Thank You!

Because Andrew's has a space in it that's not supposed to be there.
