Graphics properties unresponsive?

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, and I'm absolutely stumped.

For about a month or so now I've been getting the error "gfxui is not working" on start-up, but never honestly thought anything of it since it did't seem to affect anything. Then a few days ago I tried to plug my laptop into my tv and it was all out of whack, and when I tried to get into "graphics properties" I was getting that old gfxui error again, and I've been trying to get rid of it since.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Intel video drivers and .NET framework, checking to make sure it was enabled, running all my registry cleaners and anti-viruses in safe mode, letting it try and auto-update the video drivers, everything I could find, with the only progress I've made being that after I ran all that stuff in safe mode, the error itself no longer pops up, but the graphics properties, no matter how I try to get to it, is completely unresponsive.

This is absolutely driving me insane, so if anyone could help shine some light on this for me I'd seriously be eternally grateful!!!

So I've found somewhat of a fix, I just went onto HP's website and downloaded the very basic original drivers and installed it, and its working great (though I'm having issues getting it to let me run an extended desktop with my tv as the main) but you can tell its an older version by the look of it, and when I try to update, I just get the same problems that I was having before, it just goes completely unresponsive. I would like to update it at some point but apparently I can't with out it refusing to work again.

I thought I would post this in hopes of maybe shedding some light on the topic, as I guess it has to do with an update from somewhere along the line, and I would still like to be able to update it also.

When you uninstall the drivers, did you make sure to uninstall the Intel management software too? This resolved the issue for one user I've found. I'm guessing it would be separately uninstalled from the Programs & Features screen?

To uninstall I've first been going to Programs and Features and uninstalling "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" with the only other Intel entry being the "Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager" which just sounds like something I don't want to mess with.

Then I go Start--->right click-computer--->manage--->device manager--->display adapters--->then right click and uninstall Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family if thats what you mean. I've even just tried updating my BIOS, but that still didn't help.

This whole thing is just getting me beyond frustrated, lol.

Okay, well this is a shot in the dark but it may work.

Download Driver Sweeper from here and install it. When you run it you should see a checkbox (or two) for Intel drivers. Check these and let the program remove them, it will make sure no files are left behind.

After it completes I'd suggest rebooting before giving the whole mess another try... with any luck it was just a bad file left someplace it wasn't supposed to be. If it doesn't work then I'm out of ideas!
