Getting BSOD ><

Hi, my OS started to crash with BSOD about 2-3 weeks ago and is now crashing once a day. I didn't have problems before that. I upgraded my pc on 20th of July so that I have these specs now:

Intel core i7 920
asus rampage 2 gene motherboard
6gb drr3 ram
geforce gtx260

once I upgraded I also installed win7 (64bit). So this is how my computer crashes: Everyday I start up my computer and if I don't play games it works no problem and I never get BSOD. But If I go play something, after about 5 minutes or earlier into the game, my sound starts to get choppy and starts to lag, also the entire game starts to lag. This goes on for about 1-2mins and then I get the BSOD. After my computer is reset, it works with no problems. I can play games..do everything..it works fine. I dont understand. It always crashes and does this after I power up my pc for the first time in a day.

I have posted 5 crash dump files in this .rar attachment.

Any help would be really appreciated as this is really getting annoying :)

Notorious sptd.sys problem.

Uninstall Daemon Tools normally. Then carefully use the installer/uninstaller found here to remove sptd.sys from the system:

AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums

Install PowerISO if you want stable disc emulation. Emulation part of the software is free forever:

http://www.PowerISO.com

----------

You'll really want to remove the extremely terrible Norton too, in safe mode, using the tool found here:

AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums

Reboot and install MSE to replace.

-----------

Type systeminfo in a command prompt then press enter. See which Realtek lan you have. If 8111, use the following link to update. If anything else, search the left side for the number:

Rt64win7 Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 04:04:13 2009

RTL8111

---------

Enjoy! :)

Ok thanks! I did everything as you said: removed norton, installed MSE, updated realtek lan and removed daemon tools and sptd. All I have to do now is to wait for tomorrow when I power up my pc again and we'll see what happens :) Thanks again! :)

Awesome, you're welcome. The added benefit to not experiencing bsod any longer is that the system will have much greater performance with Norton removed too.

If you indeed followed everything well, you're in the clear. If any further issues, post the crashes and we'll see what may have been missed...

Let us know how it goes on for ya...

So I think it's working now. I played a little and had no problems. Hope it stays that way :D

The crash involves intelppm.sys.

Please check the bios for any overclocking and revert to default spec. Overclocking is really the only reason why this would happen. If you aren't sure, set optimized defaults and save.

You'll also want to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete this old one:

adfs.SYS Thu Jun 26 16:52:37 2008

Reboot.

From the crash stack text. Notice the references to hal, which means hardware. "Hardware abstraction layer"

Code:

Overclocking hardware is the issue.

Further, you'd do well to update the motherboard bios to latest.

Ok I deleted the adfs.sys file. About the overclocking..I never overclocked or changed my settings in BIOS..I did check the settings and everything is set to [Auto]. I don't know where to change to optimal defaults..I didnt see this option anywhere. My BIOS is the latest.

Why does this happen only when I turn my computer on for the first time? after the crash and restart it works fine.. I dont understand.

Could be a faulty CPU but that would be like a 1 in 10,000 or less chance.

Post new crashes if/when they happen.

Perhaps you will luck out and none will.

Good luck.

It is possible that faulty RAM caused it, but I wouldn't think so yet. You'd be getting many other types of bsods too.

We shall see what future ones show.

Update the bios for the motherboard to latest. Other than that, test the memory overnight with Memtest86+ as it is likely faulty. Replace the RAM if any errors show.

Before testing though, I noticed one further driver that may be the culprit:

hamachi hamachi.sys Thu Feb 19 05:36:41 2009

Remove LogMeIn by uninstalling normally, or any other related software you might have instead, to remove this driver. Reboot.

Yes your RAM is fine if it passed with an 8 pass test.

Usually if you have bad RAM it will show up in either one or two passes using MemTest

Not necessarily...many times, modules need to be tested one at a time with others removed, to show errors.

If you have any new crash dumps, you're also welcome to post them.

If you removed the hamachi.sys successfully, then you have a RAM problem. We'll see.

What does hamachi.sys have to do with RAM?

I'll keep posting crashes if any new ones occur.

It's an old Pre-RTM driver that was loading in memory and for those two reasons, could easily have been responsible for bsods. If you removed it from the system, good chance they will not happen any longer.

In fact, I'd already expect there to be more bsods by now so perhaps you've already repaired the issue.

Good luck and yes, post new ones if they happen.
