I have a new laptop computer I just got on August 19th with Windows 7 installed. I have never used "7" before.

MY COMPUTER:

HP Pavilion dm4t Entertainment PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
• System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-430M Dual Core processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz
• 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
• No additional security software
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
• 14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768)
• FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
• HP TrueVision Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
• Wireless-N Card
• Standard Keyboard
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Almost right away it started freezing on me and I had to do hard shutdowns. I called HP support, but the problem continues. No crashes but the ctrl + shift + escape won't work when this is going on so must do hard shutdown.

This mostly occurs with simple tasks like creating or re-naming files...sometimes uploading to my website...but I have since installed a lot of software and no problem doing that.

ANY SUGGESTIONS as to what might be the problem?

Hi.

Uninstall whichever bad antivirus you have on the machine from safe mode, using the tool found here:

(Let me guess, Norton/Symantec?)

AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums

------

Reboot and install MSE.

--------

You can uninstall all the bloatware too if the problem persists.

Kaspersky is amongst the "good" ones, but it is still very much possible and even likely to be the issue.

If it were me, I'd uninstall it as a test using the procedure above.

You'd have a reliable result from the test either way and then it would be up to you to decide what you'd want to do. (Perhaps there is an update to the version of Kaspersky you have, which may help.)

If you do remove Kaspersky, install MSE when you arrive back in normal mode.

Hmmm come to think of it, the problems started about 45 mins after uninstalling Norton and installing Kasperkey. However I see on that page of uninstallers that the Kasperkey one does not work for 64 bit. Do you have any suggestions how to effectively uninstall Kasperkey for a 64 bit?

I appreciate your continued help!

Ahh..now you present the info which I originally guessed at in my first post of the thread. :)

Now we're making progress.

Boot to safe mode + networking to download and run the tool found here to remove all the remnants of Norton/Symantec.

Reboot to normal and test. If issue is still present, which it will likely not be, then boot to safe mode + networking again to remove Kaspersky with the tool.
