Folder settings

I have several folders on a drive filled with .mp3 files. I've created short
cuts and sent them to my desktop so when I want to listen to music I just open
up the folder for the kind of music I want and launch the songs. I had the same
on my Windows XP system, and I had it set so when I opened the folder, all I saw
was the name of the song. Nothing else, as each of the many folder and
sub-folders was specific to an artist. I liked it that way. Now with Windows 7
Professional 64 bit on a new machine, I was able to set the dfoleders up on my
desktop and they work fine except that when I open a folder, I get all the extra
details I don;t want. I've tried setting the folder properties to documents and
music and still get extra details I don't want. Is there a way to do it like
Windows XP. I think the choice with XP was details or not details (filename
only). Thanks.

For each folder click view/choose details.

Thanks, but I don't see List or Details anywhere in Windows 7 like I used to see
in XP.
Open the folder click view then click choose details or
click list. It's not rocket science.,

Win 7 likes to hide stuff. Look at the right side of the tool bar, there is
a little square POS, click it and you will get the options.

Got it. Much thanks. Now, as I have quite a number of folders to do, is it
possible to globally do it to all subfolders within a folder in one click?

Also, when I open a folder, in the right pane, I get all my songs, listed with
no details, just like I want it, but there's a left pane with Favorites,
Libraries, Drives and Network showing. Is there a way to get rid of that on a
folder by folder basis so all I have oopen is all my music? Thanks again.

Are we talking the same Windows version here? I'm talking Windows 7, I see no
Tools/folder options. That sounds like something I remember from Windows XP.
Where do I find it in Windows 7? Nothing there when I open a folder ir when I
open properties.

Read my previous. It doesn't say anything about properties.
Just do what I told you. Look at the menu at the top. View
is there.

Not until you press Alt, or else set it up to always show the menu bar,
which is *not* the default.

OTOH, if you click on Organize on the top left and then Folder and Search
Options, you can do it there without the menu bar.

Thanks. I found it under Organize. You never mentioned Organize.

Thanks. I knew I wasn't going blind. Alt works fine. Now how do I set that up as
Default, as I like that, or can I?

Disregard. I found it and have set the menu bar up as default. Now my only
problem, and there's probably no work around, is getting rid of that navigation
pane on the left does it for each and every folder. I can't pick what folder I
can do it to. Unless I'm missing something. Seems to be a global command. I
don't mind for most folders until I open Computer. I prefer to have the left
pane open for that one thing.

With XP, you could edit the shortcut you use to open those folders,
adding switches to make it open the way you want. Does Win 7 have
anything similar?

Here is some of what I'm talking about:

Thanks here. I've been looking for that option also. Win 7 stoopidly* (I
know) seems to like us to play hide and seek.

I think the same switches still work, but lately I haven't been using them,
so I can't swear to it.

There are discussions here and there for making some Windows Explorer
settings sticky, so that all of your folders (or at least all of a certain
type) would look the same on opening.

I don't bother with that, so I can't tell you how to do it, or even where
to look for the information.
