Folder date problem.

With XP I could do anything I wanted inside a folder (add files, edit
files, etc.) and the folder date would not change from it's creation
date. I liked having this for historical perspective.

Windows 7 changes the date of the folder to current as soon as you do
anything inside it.

Is there a setting somewhere that will 'fix' this for me?

If you look at the columns at the top of the List View you will see one
called 'Date Modified' which is the default and does what it says on the
tin. Right click that column header (or indeed any of them) and choose the
columns you want - Date Created is the one you are looking for.

Thanks Jeff. You are precisely right. Unfortunately, through ignorance
on my part, I now see my problem is of a different nature.

You see, I do not use Windows Explorer to look at files. For many
years I have used an excellent utility program called Total Commander
(formerly called Windows Commander). As far as I know it does not
offer a similar ability to switch it's date display to 'created'.
Obviously I have to take my complaint to the program's author.

I use Free Commander which I suspect is very similar. There is a user
forum at Total Commander's website, they'll be able to help.

That is a behavior-difference for folders under the FAT32 vs.
NTFS filesystems. 'Date Modified' do not change for folders under
FAT32. With WinXP also the systemvolume can be FAT32, while not
so with WinVista and probably neither with Win7.

Don't know if this is the reason for what you noticed.

Dunno
