I've been having trouble with my Compaq Desk top , I ran the Fix It Utilities 10.0 program on the pc. The Chaotic Addressing Memory Test Failed What causes this and how do you fix it?. It has been performing the Butterfly seek test all day, Any idea as to how long this test will run?
Thanks, Leaderman

Hi leaderman, sorry for the slow reply, I've just seen this thread now.

I've never heard of the "Chaotic Addressing Memory Test", so I am just guessing it's a random type of memory testing.

Have you been experiencing any problems with your PC? Personally, I don't put too much trust in this sort of application. It may be worth performing a more detailed memory test using MemTest (http://www.memtest.org/) instead :).

I agree with Ian. Stay away from utilities such as Fix It. They can cause more trouble than they are worth.

Download memtest from http://www.memtest86.com/. It's the best out there IMO.

To clear up some possible confusion, Memtest86+ replaced Memtest86.

The memory diagnostics tool (I think it is the same one?) is also built in to Windows 7.
Control Panel - Administrative tools - Windows Memory diagnostics.
It takes a while, and will publish a text report on the automatic reboot.

WOW! This utility must be fun!
I mean: Butterfly seek? Chaotic Addressing Memory Test ?

The guys who made this had some imagination :D

Anyway, I agree, Memtest is the way to go.
