Although he didn't explicitly ask, I think Rudy wanted some reasons -
especially for using it if it's only available (so far) in 32 bit
(assuming he has a 64-bit OS).

Either version will be the same - there is no 64 bit official version of
Firefox - so he should use v8, as it is the most secure.

Win7 64-bit has no problems running 32-bit FF.

Apart from that, the real question is whether the "improvements" to FF
are worth the hassle of learning small, and therefore annoying, changes
in work habits. I don't think so, but YMMV.

Is there a newsgroup for Firefox?

I could certainly use one.

Is there a newsgroup for Firefox?
Yes, it's on Mozilla's private server so you'll have to set up your
newsreader (Agent) for news.mozilla.org and then look for the Firefox
newsgroup mozilla.support.firefox.

Yes, but you have to connect to news.mozilla.org to get it. All Mozilla
stuff is there. Note, it is moderated.
What does 'moderated' mean in this context? Censored?!

No. It is strongly advisable to go to Version 9.0 scheduled to be
released tomorrow - Tuesday 20th December 2011.

Good luck.

My understanding is that RealPlayer will NOT work with the higher
versions. It apparently won't work with 64-bit browsers so I had to go
back to version 5 of Firefox. Not all updates are better apparently. So
until RealPlayer is updated I'll stick to the older version.

I don't know if it is relevant, but I get mozilla.support.thunderbird
from free.teranews.com; I don't know whether m.s.firefox is there.

Sort of. Posts to moderated newsgroups don't appear in the newsgroup
immediately, but have to be vetted by a moderator. Of course, this
depends on all newsserver managers acknowledging that it _is_ a
moderated 'group; if one of them starts to carry it as a non-moderated
(i. e. ordinary) 'group, then posts to that group via that server - and,
eventually, any that peers with that server - get out.

RealPlayer? When I read that I automatically glanced over at the
system clock expecting to see the year 2005. Seriously, does anyone
use RealPlayer anymore? What about Real Alternative? I wonder if that
still works? I haven't run across any Real media in at least 5 years,
maybe longer. I assumed the format was basically dead.

Mozilla newsgroups are instant. As soon as you post a message, it is
online. The only time a message is deleted is when someone is rude to
other users otherwise it is instant. The guy who moderates is

Chris Ilias <[email protected]> or his website: <http://ilias.ca/>

He is a very nice chap - highly dedicated and hard working.

Ah, that's the other sort of moderated newsgroup - only possible where
restricted to one newsserver: posts appear immediately, but can be taken
off. If you take them via other servers (the thunderbird one is carried
by teranews, though I think the firefox one isn't), then such moderation
is less swift (if it happens at all).
