I have a problem coping files between two Windows 7 machines on a network.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 Laptop that came with Windows 7. It is connected to a wireless network. I have a Dell Inspron XPS 410 Desktop with a newly clean installation of Windows 7 connected to the wireless router via cable.

I need to copy files from the Laptop Drive E to the Desktop Drive E.

From the Desktop I get message, “You need permission to perform this action”

In contrast, from the Desktop, I can copy from the Laptop to the Desktop.

I have full permission and administration control.

What is my problem and what is the solution?

Hi Merv - Welcome to w7forums

Check these settings to see if they match on both machines.

Control Panel >> Network and Internet >> Network and Sharing Center >> Advanced sharing settings

It Cliffs tip doesn't do it for you, Put the files you need to copy into the public folder and it is easier.

Partally solved.

I have a Windows 7 network of two computers. Computer 1 is connected wireless and Computer 2 is connected by cable.

From Computer 2, I can access the Internet and all drives and files on Computer 1.

From Computer 1, I can access the Internet. I have successfully mapped the Computer 2 drives from Computer 1. The connection drops after some time and I cannot reconnect or remap.

What is the problem and what is the solution?
