File Location

Could someone point me to the location of the folder that contains the
menu items in Windows 7. I need to do some reorganization of the menu
but cannot find the location.

How to find out = R-click on the item in question, select properties,
select general tab, read info in "Location".

Does that really work? I can't try it myself right now but in earlier
versions of Windows that would show the location of the actual
program, not the location of the menu.

And what about drag and drop on the Start menu itself?

Since the "item" is actually a shortcut, Properties, General, Location
identifies the location of the shortcut. I think you may be remembering
"Properties, Shortcut, Target" or "Open file location" on the same tab.

Not really - that has to do with the display of the overall menu. What I
am trying to find is the actual list of programs shown in the start
menu so I can do some changes in the groupings. I know it is in some
folder but I have not been able to find it.

The very first response to your question, about 6 hours ago, contained
the correct answer.

Thanks, I see what you mean.

I've read about people like you. :)
Well, in fairness it's a lot less necessary than it used to be. More
and more I'm just clicking the Start button and then typing the first
few letters of the command.

I know, I was just teasing a bit. I think it's crazy, personally, but
I have to admit that Searching for things is frequently faster than
actually navigating the start menu now. It's no wonder that some
people want to organize things a bit.

If you want to add or remove items from that menu - I don't think you can in
W-7. I can't find the folder either.

I see the new W-7 "search programs and files" doesn't work too well. I
searched for it and it wasn't found. Back to Agent-Ransack if it'll work
on W-7.

"Why not...?"

"Yes, but..."
