File Associations

Yes, I could look this up on Google but I figure I'll get a shorter, easier
answer here. Thanks in advance...

Whenever I double click a video file, Windows Media Player opens and I
immediately get the message:

"Windows Media Player had stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop
working correctly. Please close the program."

Windows Media Player is basically useless to me now. But I prefer VLC Media
Player anyway. My question is how do I change (hopefully, all at once) all my
video files so that when I double-click them, VLC opens up and not Windows Media
Player. I'm sure it's a simple thing to do, I just can't remeber how. Thanks.

Right click on the file.
Select: Open With from the pop-up menu.
Click: Choose [default] Program.
Select: VLC Media Player.
Check: Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
Click OK.

You may have to do this more than once if you are looking at different
file types.

Have a look in the Event Viewer, and see if you can
get one of those dandy 8 digit error codes.

Then, find a site with lots of those errors listed.

"WMP mini FAQ"

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html

I went there looking for a "log file", but it's just
possible there isn't a runtime file. In which case,
perhaps Event Viewer should be your first stop.

I doubt it. The answer is short and easy no matter where you get it.

The file associations for media players have been settable from within
the programs options in every one that I've ever used. And so it is
with VLC, just like the rest of them. In fact, it's on the very first
page of the options.

Short and easy enough for you?

As you wanted all video files associated with VLC, probably the easiest
way would have been to uninstall it and reinstall it, checking the
option at install to allow it to be associated with all video files.

Or got to tools/preferences and setup associations.

Of course - much simpler. The bottom part of the "preferences" box is
always hidden when I select it my laptop, and I forget it's there.

Next time get a laptop with a higher resolution screen.

Naturally it will cost you a bit more

but you'll see more of everything including the tits

as well as the pubic hair of girlie pics

without having to scroll up and down.

It's worth the extra money just for that! ;-) LOL

I suggested that yesterday, but apparently the OP preferred the more
complicated methods.

Yesterday! I can't remember that far back :)
