fatal error 552??

I've Just recently purchased a laptop with win7 home premium being the
installed OS. all fine and dandy, except I can no longer log onto my
bank at lloydstsb, it will show the main page, but it will never load
the actual page where details are required to login, it will simply
hang till eventually it will display 'Secure connection: fatal error
(552)' I've tried to resolve this by using numerous browsers and by
going through all internet settings with a fine toothcomb, all to no
avail, however if I use an anonymous proxy then I am able to connect,
which is all very weird, I have no problems connecting with my winXP
netbook, so what on earth could be the problem? are there perhaps some
hidden security settings within windows7 that we no nothing about, or
do tsb dislike this new OS, either way it's doing my head in, and I
need results fast!

yep, and they are non the wiser why this should be happening, the only
advice they can give is to contact my isp (virgin media) but I'm now
slowly losing all hope of ever getting this problem resolved, as with
regard to calling virgin media one instinctively knows they won't have
the foggiest idea what's happening.. I've now put it down to being just
one of those weird things in life that belies comprehension, ie: does
your chewing gum lose it's flavour on the bedpost overnight, and is
there life on mars.

It seems it has something to do with the SSL implementation. There may
be something wrong with the default SSL software on your computer. I'm
not sure where to look beyond that though.

In Internet Explorer have you tried running with no add-ons ?
Have you tried resetting IE to it's default settings (Tools > IE Options Advanced)?
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode with Networking to see if that works?
Could it be a security problem, have you tried disabling any antivirus stuff you may have?

Error 552 means . I plain language you have overloaded your system
This response is returned by the server to either an RCPT or a DATA command if the
user has exceeded their storage quota.

tried altering every conceivable internet setting that I know of,
including disabling all add ons and BHOs, have also tried connecting
whilst in virtual machine running winXP, plus have tried to connect
whilst running in safe mode, all to no avail.. the ONLY instance where
I am able to reach the login page is by using http://proxify.co.uk/
whereby a connection is immediatel established, but due to security
reasons I am loath to ever use this method of access as one never knows
who just might be gleaning all my juicy details.. the only thing I
haven't tried is taking the laptop back to it's factory settings, I'll
maybe give it shot when I get the time, but it seems a lot of effort
just because of connection problems which relate to one particular
website.. just out of interest I have no problems logging into paypal
which I would imagine uses the same type of encryption.

Try it at another location, round a friend's house?
Try another modem? (Clutching at straws here!)

It might work with a different browser. Or not, guessing by what Peter
Foldes said.

Firefox, Safari, Opera, & Google Chrome are all free and seem to garner
good recommendations.
