explorer.exe corrupted?

I recently had a power failure while shutting down my laptop; upon starting it up again, I found that attempting to log into an account gave me a blank screen. I was able to pull up the Task Manager using Ctrl-Alt-Del, and found that explorer.exe was hanging. I can launch new tasks using Task Manager (which is how I got Firefox up and running), and I can switch between tasks using Alt-Tab; but that's it: any time I try to do anything that involves file management (such as using Firefox to save an alternate file manager), the process hangs.

As far as I can tell, everything on my system is working, except for explorer.exe. What can I do to fix the problem?

Drop to a command prompt with administrator privileges and run "sfc /scannow".
