Could be a poorly coded webpage but more likely it is a script blocker or URL blocker that you are running. You didn't mention what browser but for IE there is an icon you can select in your start menu called "Internet Explorer (no add-ons)" and Firefox has one called "Mozilla FireFox (safe mode)". Try those and see if you still have a problem; if not then something you have installed is blocking you. Things like NoScript (for Firefox) are incredibly annoying in how strict they can be.

Browsers include the ability to add things to them over and above the standard install.

There are lots of add-ons: tooolbars like Google or Bing searches, and products like NoScript, or Anti-virus programs which block portions of web pages (such as scripts) from running; sometimes they block things you want to allow.

Like I said, first see if it works in no add-ons/safe mode, which turns these off. Does it work then?

If so then we need to find out what browser you are using and we can figure out what extras are installed. But if safe mode doesn't help then we need to look for another answer.

So even when you copy the link from the email and put it directly into the browser (running in safe mode) it still will not show you the webpage? Are you absolutely certain the link is valid? Maybe the sender mistyped it.

What email client are you using? Or is this a web-based mail; if so which one? Can you post here a link which is NOT working for you (please make sure it is a PG-rated site)?

error on page

i am not able to copy the link from the page, when i go to copy it the link i am copying gets shaded and as soon as the cursor leaves it ,the link goes to its original color, i can not copy and paste a link up to the browser. even in safe mode i would click on the link , nothing happens, email client -ie 8 / i use hotmail as my main email address,

Lowe's Consumer Credit Terms and Conditions

for some reason i am able to copy the link, drag cursor over link, right click on it and copy, bring up to browser and insert and pull it up. i think i need to drop back a notch and mark down what happens at which time that i get error on page. then get back to you, i don't want to waste your time, you have been very helpful. thank you gerard

OK, when you saved the last post there is a link to Lowe's "Terms and conditions" and when I click on it I get:
Lowes.jpg

Hotmail does have added security built into their online mail to disable links for unknown senders. If you add Lowes to your contact list then this may cure your issue. From what I have seen there is also usually a message at the top of each mail saying that links are disabled and there is a button to "show all contents" or "show all links", something like that. Check around your mail screen and see if you can locate something like that.

Please understand this is done for your protection so that you do not accidentally click on malicious websites send by spammers. If you trust the sender then you choose to add them to your contacts or show all content; if not then that protection may help keep harmful viruses or other malware off your computer.

Reinstalling W7 because of windows Hotmail is extreme overkill and not likely to help at all. If you actually mean the installed Windows Live Mail then simply uninstall the application and reinstall that, not all of W7.
