DRM Upgrade

R

Rick

This evening I downloaded a TV program (576 MB) from the BBC iPlayer, the
program contains some kind of proprietary DRM, so can only apparently be
played back on Windows Media Player, which when I try informs me that the
DRM needs an automatic upgrade, it then goes through the motions with the
green bar a speeding to the very end, however when it gets there it displays
a message which says 'Windows Media Player encountered an error during
upgrade'.
I thought that this might be due to not using the IE browser, so I made it
my temporary default browser, but still had the same result, I then tried
playing it in Media Center which also told me that it needed an update,
again still with the same result at the end of it and annoyingly nothing
which tells me why, it simply refuses to complete the download, only
directing me to some kind of forum where I can find absolutely no mention of
this problem, so any help would therefore be gratefully received. TIA

I'm not sure how much help you'll get here for that problem. It's
obviously not a Windows 7 issue, but on top of that, you didn't
mention what you downloaded, exactly where you downloaded it from,
what the error messages were when you tried to update the player, nor
the forum that it directed you to in the end.

Isn't DRM a wonderful thing?
That's why I download everything without DRM...

Agreed, at least I've now managed to download and install the desktop
iPlayer, but even that wouldn't originally download without disabling Chrome
and temporarily making Internet Explorer my default browser.

"but on top of that, you didn't mention what you downloaded, exactly where
