Try typing the URL into the address bar. If FF still won't show the
page, there may be security problems with it.,

Good luck,

then expect to be able to move to another page by clicking on the ite
that is supposed to have a hyperlink. How to fix security problems ?

A hyperlink is a URL. Right click on it and click on Copy Link Location.
Open a new tab, and Paste the link into the address bar. Hit return. You
should now see the page (or section of a page) that the hyperlink refers to.

This is a work-around, not a permanent fix: you'll have to do it every
time you want to access that page or page-section.

Sometimes, extension interfere with FF's functions. Restart FF in Safe
Mode (without extensions), and see if that cures the problem. But that
will simply chnage the structure of the problem, since you would then
have to figure out which extension is doing the damage, and whether you
want to disable it.

If there is a security problem, it's with the page. Recent updates to
FF have incorporated protection against some security issues. AFAIK, you
can't disable these. Anyhow I've never tried to do so. BTW, all browsers
are gateways into your computer. Each browser is insecure in some ways.
That's the main reason for updates.

There is a dysfunctional 'send link' option in its context menu, but n
'Copy Link Location'.
I'll report on the safe launching of FF after I've had time to try it

Launching in Safe Mode produced no improvement

Launching in Safe Mode produced no improvement.
If you can interpret HTML, and wish to continue attempts at diagnosis,
you can view the source (actual code):

Tools > Web Developer > Page Source, or Ctrl-U. There should be a
http://etc link at the location that's giving you trouble. You can find
it quickly by using Edit > Find.

If there is a proper link there, try copying and pasting it into a new
tab. If not, you've found the source of the problem, but not a cure. The
only cure would be a change at by the page-owner.

OTOH, if the targeted page is a security issue, FF may not open it even
in its own tab. Or if it does, you risk infection.

Good luck,

"and wish to continue attempts at diagnosis"
indeed I do.
"If you can interpret HTML" I can NOT.
"There should be a http://etc link at the location that's giving yo
trouble."
If you (I ?) want the viable hyperlink, I can get it from Chrome,
suppose.
"If there is a proper link there"
Double click achieves nothing, and right-click results in a 'window'
of which I can send you a snap if it's useful.
"The only cure would be a change at by the page-owner."
I started this thread after the 'page-owner' told me that they can fin
no fault at their end

Send me the webpage's URL and a note of which link doesn't work. Also,
which version of Firefox you're using. If it works on my system, then
it's your FF installation, in which case uninstall and reinstall from a
fresh copy of FF may fix the problem. If simple uninstall/reinstall
doesn't work, a 3rd party utility to do a complete uninstall/reinstall
should be tried.

Why try this? because a) FF updates don't always clean up old files and
registry entries as completely as they should; and b) Windows uninstall
leaves obsolete files and registry entries in place. This left-over
detritus is a major weakness of Windows, but it's not unique: Apple's
OS-X is almost as bad.
