Greetings,
I had to rebuild my Sony w7 laptop (VGN-FW250J) from w7/64 Upgrade disc.
But now some things aren't right.
Doesn't sound like Emergency, but it is.

ie., touchPad reacts to TAP.
I want to disabe TAP and any other goodies like it.
Just want to use touchpad to move cursor around.
onSpotSupport and BelkinSupport, and one other socalledPRO, don't kntow how to do it.

I did it once when I first got the Sony.
But don't remember how to do it.

Do I really need to download a driver or something?
w7/64 Sp1, Sp2, Sp3 ??? All or just SP3

Thanks...Vernon

1) When going to Sony's support page for you laptop, it's showing vista drivers, with the option of the drop down menu to change OS.

2) Did this laptop come with Vista or windows 7?
3) When you re-installed with 7, did you download all your primary drivers for your laptop? 4) 4) Here's your link for drivers.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model...te_id=1&region_id=1&tab=download#/downloadTab
Thanks:
1) Yes i've been there but see nothing for touchpad. The Driver currently used is mouclass.sys . Any ideas?
2) Laptop started out as Vista, then upgraded to win7 homeP.
3) No i just used the original upgrade disk.

5) Where can i get the "vaio data recovery tool". What would its name be, "recovery.exe"?

Thanks...Vernon

It depends on the driver. On my nephews laptop I can disable TAP but I bought a wireless keyboard with built-in touch pad for the HTPC in the living room and because it just uses the built-in W7 drivers, I have no way to disable that one.

If you go to control panel > mouse, look through all the tabs for "Tap to Click" and disable it if it's there.

If you don't have that option under mouse and you can't live with it then you might try the Driver list for your computer for Vista 64. Get the Pointing Device > ALPS Pointing Device Driver for Vista 64 and try that.

No there is no such tab,
or anything about TAP or TAPping.

Even SONY has no Drivers listed for VGN-FW250J .
Who is the DRIVERS Guru here? :)

Thanks...Vernon

No, there wouldn't be a Tab called "Tap", I am saying you need to check all the tabs under mouse for any switch that refers to "tap".

And what are you talking about Sony not listing any drivers? HERE I found it with a simple Bing search on "drivers VGN-FW250J".

And the Vista 64 ALPS Device Driver I mentioned is HERE

Attached is a pic of my mouseProperties from ControlProgram. No mention of TAB anywhere.

Yes, I have been to the same spot many times. But that tab is for Vista. Mine is now win7.

Are you suggesting that I should try the vista Driver on my win7 ?
If I try that, how will I get back to mouClass.sys ?
Won't I get stuck without ANY pointing Device ?

There is a little box at the top of the Sony drivers to change for W7 drivers, they just don't provide a W7 driver for your touchpad because touchpad support is built-in to W7.

If you are not satisfied with the Touchpad options of W7 then the only choice I can think of is to try the Vista 64-bit driver.

First create a restore point that way if you aren't satisfied with the Vista driver you can easily Restore your system. Then install the vista driver.

I went to Sony Chat eSupport.
Free for the 1st 15 minutes.

Imagine that, it took them exactly 15mins to diagnose the prob,
but I would need to give them $89 to fix the prob.

Finally I ended up on the Sony supportForum.
And they actually helped me with the following Reply.

In order to restore your Touchpad options for Scroll and Tap, you must reinstall
the Shared Library ,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFW250J&upd_id=4984&os_group_id=6

the VAIO Event Service ,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFW250J&upd_id=5021&os_group_id=6

and the Notebook Control Utility ,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFW250J&upd_id=5000&os_group_id=6

these 3 drivers should restore the touchpad utility over the default windows USB mouse driver currently running.

if you still are encountering problems with windows 7 please review this guide:
Upgrade Instructions for Windows 7 ,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?info_id=508

Hope this helps someone else too.
Thanks ALL...Vernon

ALMOST SOLVED: driver (Sony Vaio VGN-FW 250J Laptop)

UGH:
Updates helped a bit.
But still have a prob with Selecting-Text.
When I select Text
holding down leftMouseButton and dragging finger across touchPad,
then letting go of leftMouseButton,
the drag is still in effect, mouse/touchpad won't let go
until I do a double leftMouseButton-click somewhere.
Actually, anywhere I leftMouseButton-click and drag with touchPad
(ie., leftMouseButton-click & Drag on scrollBars),
the Drag won't let go .

Pls, Where can I find Driver updates ?
Current Drivers:
===============================
Alps pointing-device for Sony Vaio VGN-FW 250J Laptop
Apfiltr.sys 5.7.0.92 built by WinDDK
i8042prt.sys 6.1.7600.16835 (win7_rtm 090713-1255)
mouclass.sys 6.1.7600.16835 (win7_rtm 090713-1255)

Thanks...Vernon

If the Vista 64-bit driver won't work then there is nothing more I know of to offer. It is an unfortunate fact of the computer industry that they want to sell new equipment, not spend money supporting old, so they rarely support a product beyond one more OS generation.
