Desktop icons text appearance

Due to the poor visibility of Windows Live Mail, I thought I'd give High
Contrast (LeftAlt-LeftShift-PrtScr) a try (Home Premium 64 bit).

Bad mistake! The High Contrast theme (dark purple and black, with white
text) would not toggle off, even through reboots and unchecking the box in
Ease of Access Centre. I eventually got the appearance back to near normal
(Windows Classic) with Personalization, but am left with the text beneath
the desktop icons in white with a dark shadow. I thought it wasn't like
that before.

In "Windows Color and Appearance" if I select "Icon" in the "Item" drop-down
menu I can change the font, its size, and whether or not it is in bold or
italic, but the "Color" option is greyed out. Any idea how to change the
desktop icon text colour?

TIA

Found the answer to getting rid of the shadow. Microsoft hides these things
in the most unlikely places!

Control Panel | All Control Panel Items | Performance Information and Tools
| Adjust Visual Effects | Visual effects tab - uncheck "Use drop shadows for
icon labels on the desktop"

Have you tried the Clear Type Fonts Option. It does give me clearly readable
fonts.
